Details: Along the beach you can find some smoothed rocks near the tide. Some are colorful red, white, purple, and green mainly. I think some of it is jade. Also, there are sand dollars and shell fossils (some appearing as interesting smoothed round rocks).
Directions: We entered the beach area going south on Skyline Blvd (highway 35) from San Francisco just past Lake Merced and before reaching the Olympic Club golf course entrance. We turned a right and parked in the parking lot there which served the beach area and the hang-gliding launch. We found the rocks and sand dollars going south on the beach below the cliffs which didn't have much foot traffic. My GPS is at the parking lot that we parked at. This place is pretty much just north of Thornton Beach State Park. The hill down to the beach is steep so be prepared for exercise on the way back.
