Details: This is a fee pay mine where you can dig for gems (by reservation only) in San Diego County. Last check was that it costs $60/day for adults and $50/day for kids. Check their webpage reservation page for up to date price information and to make a reservation.
There is also a FAQ page (frequently asked questions page). The pegmatite here produces many minerals and gems. This includes the pink and watermelon varieties of tourmaline, morganite, quartz crystals, feldspar crystals, and many other minerals.
Directions: Their website map can't be viewed until you have a reservation and a password or pin number. Therefore I borrowed mindat's GPS coordinates and that is what is marked by the placemark on the google map here.
