Details: I finally got out to this location, even though I have not had luck usually with the source's information. I searched around Eagle Bluff for probably 40 minutes. I finally found some marcasite in shale and it was worth it! I also found a radiating crystal pattern in another rock. The information that I was searching from was from this website's collecting locations for Cherokee County. All that it said was: "Eagle Bluff, in black shale: marcasite (crystals) (Zeitner 1972). "
The hills is steep, so be very careful with your footing. There were weeds when I was there, and probably snakes nearby. I saw a wasps nest too. Wear gloves for handling shale and a rock hammer or small hand tools may help uncover marcasite. It's easiest after a rain, though and stuff is on the surface. It may have been hard to collect if someone else covered the surface before me.
Directions: Just south of the Eagle Bluff resort (off of highway 10) at the Illinois River near Ellerville. My gps placemark shows the exact location.
