Details: While there for a canoe trip I picked up a lot of nice polished chert pieces. There was a geode specimen on the other side of the river and in the river my wife found a piece of petrified wood. The chert was banded and colorful. It could have been jasper also but I'm not an expert. The whole Elk River has pieces of chert and sandstone and limestone with fossils also. You probably should ask for permission as a habit on private land. I didn't, but you should. Don't expect this to be a great site, but it is a sampling of what that part of Missouri has.
Directions: Go to the Hog Heaven canoe and campground website. It is a little ways west on highway H from highway 71 near Pineville.
