Details:
This location hosted a public dig in 2021 by the Crystal Collector, Bryan Major of youtube. Info about their site can be found at https://www.facebook.com/Haunted-Ridge-Rocks-107454174811592/ however at the time we paid by the bucket ($20 per 5 gallon bucket for surface material).
After spraying the dirt off the finds, we soaked them in Super Iron Out. Depending on the presence of iron mineral stuck on the quartz, it could take a day or 30 to soak them. I may just try straight water to break down the iron minerals.
This locality is known for the lace agate and the druzy quartz on top of the agate. Specimens can be found all around the Cadet area. The botryoidal nature of the host rock gives some added dimension to the lustery druzy and sugary quartz. Also the Washington County Aggregates Quarry produces specimens with druzy, pyrite, sphalerite, galena, barite on limestone. Also some of these mineral may be present at Haunted Ridge, albeit the pyrite did not survive the elements and I did not see galena or sphalerite.
