Details: From the Utah geology website, location #27, it says: "Ammonites, jasper, agate
The ammonoid cephalopod Scaphites is common throughout a broad outcrop area of the Mancos Shale in the Emery-Castle Dale-Price-Woodside area, forming a broad arc around the northern end of the San Rafael Swell. The fossils commonly occur in silicified nodules that weather out of the shale and are marked by a rusty brown color compared to the gray shale. Some of the higher hills in this area are capped by a veneer of stream gravels which include abundant clasts of jasper and agate."
Directions:
From the Utah geology website, location #27, it says: "Directions to Site: These fossils occur in a broad area. Examine the area south and east of Castle Dale behind the power plant and under the power lines running from the plant. One such area occurs in Sec. 34, T.19 S., R.8 E and can be reached by taking the gravel road due east out of Clawson, going straight at the intersection marked by the yield signs, down the hill and past the power lines to the shaly outcrops along the road (total distance about 4.6 miles). (Alternatively, turn south off the highway south of the overpass at the power plant and follow that road past the coal loading area of the plant until you reach the intersection marked with the yield signs and there turn left for 1.4 miles.) "
I don't think the marker I chose is in the right spot.
