Details: Information about finding almandine garnets and staurolite is at John Bett's website page about this location. This is a fee pay area according to the site. An old defunct wiki used to say: "General description: A well known location for collecting the Connecticut State Gem: the garnet. The site also provides Staurolite. Large almandine garnet crystals to 1" across can be found in both hard rock or loose in the soil. Handy to bring along: 1. Bucket 2. Hand tools 3. Rock hammer 4. Pry bar 5, Small sledge"
