Spiked balls of crystal formations, some clustered. Possibly a zeolite or some type of quartz. I have not had the crystals evaluated at my rock club meeting yet. They can be found in Heber. Starting in Payson, take the 260 to Heber, (appx 35 - 45 minutes) the 260 bends to a huge 3/4 circle at the end of which is Aspen Lane on the left. Turn left here. Then make your first left near the top of the hill onto Zane Grey Trail. This loops through the collection area then back onto Aspen Lane for a total of about a mile and a half loop. This is pavement for just a few feet, then semi-maintained dirt road. After about a couple hundred yards, it turns into an extremely treacherous road that will require 4WD and High Clearance. Along the trails and throughout the area in very light colored sandstone, you will see mostly round spiked clusters of crystals that can range from a 1/4 of an inch up to an inch and a half in diameter. Some of them are so round that they can form a perfect ball of milky to crystal clear spiked crystal formations. I have had success harvesting them after the snow melts and a new crop is exposed after each season. They are quite showy and make perfect jewelry ideas. They are heavy for their size and the quality and hardness is very durable. Good luck and happy hunting. To my knowledge, this is not reported on the mindat site or any others that I know of to date. | Starting in Payson, take the 260 to Heber, (appx 35 - 45 minutes) the 260 bends to a huge 3/4 circle at the end of which is Aspen Lane on the left.
